Level 1 ( Beginner)

We will learn:

1. The starting position including board set-up. The chess pieces names. Piece movement and capture:pawn (2 and 1 square moves), bishop (stuck in one colour),rook,Queen,King (not castling),Knight. Capture takes a move.

2. Board coordinates.

3. The value of the pieces.

4. Defending a piece.

5. King cannot capture a defended piece .Cannot move into check.

6. Capture exercises .

7. Chaturanga and FIDE.

8. Pawn promotion: knight, bishop, rook or queen but not pawn or king. Must promote .

10. The end of the game:checkmate and three necessary conditions.

7. The Queen fork (Targets).

8. Capture calculation to win material: number of attackers vs defenders and order depending on piece-worth during capture.

9. Attacking a pinned piece.

10. A pinned piece can not be counted as a defender.

11. Simple checkmates:Scholar’s and Fool’s mate.

12. Discovered Attack and discovered check.

13. The Skewer.
