Grade Level: Rising 4th–5th Grade Students

Focus: Reading Comprehension, Writing, Vocabulary, Verbal Reasoning (Synonyms & Analogies)

Course Overview

This 1-semester course is tailored to introduce and prepare younger students for the SSAT Lower Level exam. The focus is on building a strong foundation in reading comprehension, writing mechanics, and verbal reasoning through engaging activities and structured practice. Students will develop skills in a fun, interactive, and confidence-building environment while becoming familiar with the SSAT format.

Course Goals

By the end of the course, students will:

• Understand the structure and content of the Lower Level SSAT.

• Build reading comprehension strategies to tackle fiction and nonfiction texts.

• Practice timed narrative and descriptive writing.

• Learn essential vocabulary and word relationships.

• Practice analogies and synonym identification.

• Improve test-taking stamina through regular mock exams.
