U.S. History Writing Course

For students in grades 6 to 8
Also ideal for strong readers in grades 4 and 5

This 30-week writing course helps students develop writing skills through the study of American history. Students will write about the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, westward expansion, the Civil War, immigration, and major 20th-century events while practicing structure and style in a supportive, engaging format.

Using U.S. History-Based Writing Lessons from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), students will complete structured assignments such as summaries, reports, and critiques, guided by IEW’s nine structural models.

What makes this class different:
Ms. Justyna adds additional historical content each week to give students a deeper understanding of U.S. history and help them connect writing skills to meaningful topics. The course blends writing instruction with rich academic content.
