COMPUTER SCIENCE SYLLABUS
PYTHON LEVEL 2: Grades 9 – 12

Course Description

Students in this course will learn about the fundamental principles of Object-Oriented
Programming, as well as in-depth data and information processing techniques. Students will solveproblems, explore real-world software development challenges, and create practical andcontemporary applications. Students will also learn about the fundamental algorithms such as, linked lists, hash tables, stacks, queues, graphs and trees. Students will analyze the time complexity of these algorithms and explore how memory is allocated in python. Students will develop their programming skills by mastering fun, engaging, and challenging assignments that boost creativity, reasoning, and problem solving. After students complete this course, they will be prepared to enroll in the Level 3 Python Course.

Course Breakdown

Lessons 1 – 8:
● A review of Python fundamentals
○ Data types, variables, logical operators, lists, conditional statements, loops
● Loops extension:
○ An Infinite Loop
○ Break statements
○ The continue Keyword
● How to debug your code
● Introduction to functions
● Parameters VS arguments
● Return statements
Lessons 9 and 10:
● Review, quiz, and project

Lessons 11 – 15:
● Introduction to dictionaries and its methods
○ Get, items, keys, pop, update, values, etc..
● Iterating over dictionaries
● Introduction to tuples
Lesson 16:
● Review and quiz
Lessons 17-21:
● What are objects and classes?
○ “self” as a parameter
● Accessing Object Variables
● Accessing Object Functions
Lessons 22 and 23:
● Introduction to data structures and algorithms
Lesson 24:
● Review all concepts, have a quiz and begin final project
Lesson 25:
● Final Project Presentations

Assessment
Students will be assessed through weekly quizzes, homework, and personal projects that will be built throughout the term.
